More detail about each of those who
served in the Sinai Palestine campaigns can be found in the most comprehensive
databases – that of Auckland War Memorial Cenotaph Database and the
Commonwealth War Graves Commission. Otherwise it is a journey across much
material – books, web sites and the NZ Mounted Rifles Association - across these can be gained an understanding of the conditions experienced by those in the Sinai Palestine campaigns. The constant need for adequate water under very hot and dry conditions - not only for the men but for the horses and camels.

The Otago Witness reporting a letter from an officer of the New Zealand Mounted Rifles in the Sinai to the Christchurch Press: -
"About 10.30 we set off for our rendezvous, about 8 miles. Will any of us forgot that ride? A blazing sun and a scorching hot •wind, every part of one's skin seemed to be cracking. Mile after mile we ' plodded on, to stop was fatal, and our only hope was a steady pace and to grin and bear it. At last, in the distance, we could see the palm trees of our destination, and a cheer went up. A mile or ed, and we were at the well. The scene here was beyond description. No one who has not suffered thirst can understand it. Men drank with their horses the brackish water out of the canvas buckets. And one bucket did not satisfy some. The look on some men's faces I never wish to see again. All parties got back to the palms about the same time (2.30), but many stragglers wero left behind. On all sides men were prostrated, and there were many cases of sunstroke. All we could do was to throw water over them until they came round again. About 25 men out of the regiment, and many Australians, had to go to hospital"( Papers Past Otago Witness, 26/07/1916, p43)

The following are lists of those who
lost their lives in the Sinai Palestine campaigns, World War One - through
disease, or through war action. TCDC ( Thames Coromandel District Council) has
designated one of the Memorial Forests on the Coromandel Peninsula to be near
Tangitaroria Lane, Pauanui. This is at the beginning of stage two of the Pauanui - Tairua
cycleway.
The following lists are to assist the process of knowing who lost
their lives in the Sinai and Palestine Campaigns during World War One: -
